October 26, 2011; Where back to back (to back, to back) happens

After Ateneo's solid run in this year's UAAP tournament en route to their fourth straight title, in comes their NCAA counterpart San Beda, who just this afternoon, clinch their second straight title and their 6th in 7 straight Finals appearance (only losing to San Sebastian in 2009).

The question on everyone's mind right now is, are they the only teams that will win the championship year after year?

Recruitment is a HUGE factor in collegiate sports. You scout young talents around the country to pick the best fit for your team, and for Ateneo and San Beda, well, they've done that part fantastically for the last decade or so. You won't win if you're not good.

Little by little, other teams in the collegiate ranks, especially the teams down the cellar, should make it a point to recruit early and recruit right. You'll never know that the guy you picked could be the best among the rest. Train them to their best potential, and make an offer that they couldn't resist. And reality people, who wouldn't like to play and study in schools like Ateneo, La Salle, UST or UP anyway? It's all in the name as well... and money...

Yes they're successful and what not, but maybe it's about time to make collegiate basketball alive once again! Like surprise small-time schools banging up the big guys (no pun intended) just like in the American NCAA. But, due to persisting politics in Philippine sports, I don't think a NCAA-UAAP-and other leagues merger won't happen.

I still hope though, I'm a sports fan in my book, and there's nothing wrong in dreaming.

The Wizard was here...;)
