May 30, 2010 (Part 1); Lakers survive Suns, wins West title!
And so it was.
Another Finals appearance for the Los Angeles Lakers.
They did so by beating the resurgent Phoenix Suns in Game 6, 111-103, to send the fans inside the US Airways Center sad and speechless.
The Lakers led by as much as 17, leading 91-74 late in the 3rd quarter. They thought the game were theirs during that period of time.
But, as the old saying in basketball goes, "A single possession could change everything", and it rightfully did.
It ain't because of Steve Nash, nor Amar'e Stoudemire. It was about Slovenian back-up guard Goran Dragic.
He instigated a 16-4 run, starting with the flagrant foul call on Laker guard Sasha Vujacic. Dragic made the 2 free shots, plus a lay-in, to cut the Laker lead down to 11, 91-80.
He continued his ways, along with Stoudemire and Leandro Barbosa, to cut the lead down to five, 95-90.
But, as always, when the going gets rough for the Hollywood boys, it was Kobe Bryant up to the rescue, hitting crucial shot after another, to extend the lead of the Lakers up to the very end.
He finished the game with 37 points on 12 out of 25 from the field, along with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Ron Artest made a huge contribution with 25 points, while Derek Fisher had 11.
The Suns meanwhile, were led by Amar'e Stoudemire with 27 points, along with 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Steve Nash had a good game with 21 points. Jason Richardson had 12, while Channing Frye had 12.
The Lakers will face the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, starting June 4th.
