February 4, 2010 (Part 1); Painters, Kings avoid early exit!

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Brgy. Ginebra Kings found a way to extend both of their series as they defeated their rivals in the continuing quarterfinal round of the 2009-2010 KFC-PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday night from the Araneta Coliseum.

In the first game, Jeffrei Chan led the way with 17 markers and 6 boards as his team punches a win against the Purefoods TJ Giants, 95-92. Gabe Norwood finished the game with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Mike Hrabak ended up with 15 points and 3 rebounds.

On the other side, KG Canaleta was their high point man with 18 points, along with 5 rebounds and 6 assists, while James and Roger Yap both scored 17 points for the Giants, who will try to close out the series Friday night to advance to the semi-final round to face the San Miguel Beermen.

In the main game, crowd-darling Brgy. Ginebra also avoided an early exit as they defeat the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, 102-97 behing J.C. Intal's new career-high 25 points, along with 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Eric Menk also had a monster game with 20 markers along with 7 rebounds, on a remarkable 12 out of 13 from the charity stripe.

The comebacking "Fast and Furious" tandem of Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand combined for 18 points for the Kings, who now needs to win the next 2 games for them to move on to the semis.

Mark Cardona led the Texters with 18 points, along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Ranidel de Ocampo chipped in 17 points and 7 boards while Jimmy Alapag finished with 16 points and 7 dimes.
