November 29, 2009 (Part 1); A good learning experience...

I am back! Yes, here I am once again to blog...hahaha!

First up, I would like to share to you guys what happened this past week.

It was our college week last week. We started the celebration by parading around the campus while all our costumes and all. Our block's theme was "Mafia Wars", an application from the social-networking site, Facebook. We all wore formal and truly, we all looked like a mafia. Haha!

Then comes Wednesday, when the basketball tournament started. Our block (CMT) would have had a game at 10 AM, but later did we knew that our opponents didn't show up, forcing a win in favor of our team via default. But our efforts weren't wasted because we just had a pick-up game with those students in the gymnasium. Good thing is that we won :)

Now in comes Friday, when we will face our next opponent. Our game would have started at around 7PM, but the thing is, our 4PM-7PM class is postponed, so we requested the tournament coordinator to just move our schedule ahead of time.

Little did we knew that it would spoil everything for our team.

We faced the Pharmacy Mens' Basketball Team.

The thing is, one of our teammates, is part of the varsity team, so he was hard on choosing what side to be on. Later on he realized that his heart belongs to our block. So there.

The game started at around 5:45 in the afternoon. Our team only had nine players on hand, so we needed to adjust on that.

First quarter started, and I was surprised on how well we did with the varsity team. The first period ended with the score of 4-3, in favor of the varsity team. Some of you guys may find it funny, but I am just telling the truth. Haha!

The second quarter came, and still, our team never fails to get close with the Pharmacy 5, ending the first half with the score, 14-10.

In comes the third quarter, where I had a chance to enter the game and show them what I've got, haha! Our team was then trailing 16-14. We had possession. I maneuvered my way to make sure that I could come up to the position in which I had no defenders, which I did, in the left hand side of our court, a teammate saw me open, passed the ball to me, and with no hesitations whatsoever, I threw the ball to the basket, from outside the arc, and sinking the shot. Ergo, first lead of the game at 17-16.

But in contrast, that was the last lead that we have ever tasted, as the Pharmacy 5 rolled on, especially in the fourth quarter, when they applied the trap defense to us, causing us to fumble the ball right in the middle of the court.

The game ended, 37-24.

It was a good learning experience for our team. Even though we didn't make it to the Finals, at least we showed something that we will all be proud of :)

So there you have it, you guys have just been fed!

God bless you guys! Stay safe! Peace out! The Wizard was here...:)

November 15, 2009 (Part 1); Magnificent Seven for Pacquiao!

It's a new day for the Philippines once more!

As our modern day hero, Manny Pacquiao, secures his place in the history book by winning his seventh World title in seven different weight divisions, defeating Miguel Cotto in the 2:05 mark of the 12th round, to win the WBO Welterweight Championship.

Now only that, Pacquiao also captured the WBC Diamond Championship, bejewelled with 600 diamonds, Swarovski crystals, emeralds, rubies, and an 18-karat gold as it's centerplate!

Manny started his career as a flyweight, just 106 pounds. Now, he's a champion at 147! And ever since that, he has won practically over any division he has stepped on to.

Here's the list of those divisions!

1. Flyweight (WBC)
2. Junior Featherweight (IBF)

3. Featherweight (Ring Magazine)
4. Super Featherweight (WBC)
5. Lightweight (WBC)

7. Welterweight (WBO)

Wow! Manny is simply the best the world has got to offer right now!

Congratulations Manny and may God bless you!

November 10, 2009 (Part 2); Gerrard's penalty kick saved Liverpool against Birmingham City

A Steven Gerrard penalty saved Liverpool from defeat at Anfield.

With the Blues leading 2-1, David Ngog went down under a challenge from Lee Carsley, and referee Peter Walton awarded a spot kick.

The returning Steven Gerrard introduced as a substitute after injury, slotted home the penalty to make it 2-2.

Birmingham had fought back well to lead 2-1 having conceded an early goal to Ngog, who scored after Joe Hart had twice made a fine save in the same move.

Christian Benitez nodded the equalizer before Cameron Jerome smashed home a stunning 30-yarder shortly before the break.

Now, here is the statline from last night's lone Premier League game.

November 8, 2009 (Part 3); Iverson takes personal leave from Grizzlies

This news is taken from NBA.com :)

MEMPHIS (NBA.com exclusive) -- After bemoaning his back-up role with the Memphis Grizzlies, veteran guard Allen Iverson left the team Saturday following a meeting with the team's owner and Coach Lionel Hollins.

"It's a personal issue," Hollins said before the Grizzlies played the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center. "And it's indefinite."

Memphis owner Michael Heisley gave the four-time NBA scoring leader permission to skip the Grizzlies' game Saturday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Accoridng to a team spokesman, Iverson participated in a walkthrough at the team's hotel in the morning and then hopped a flight in the afternoon after he and personal manager Gary Moore met with Heisley.

Iverson, a former NBA Rookie of the Year and league MVP, played Friday night in a 114-98 loss to the Lakers, scoring eight points in 22 minutes. He had come off the bench in the previous two games after sitting out the first three with a hamstring injury.

"I just want to win, I hate losing more than I like winning," Iverson said prior to Friday's game. "It's just a frustrating feeling losing. I've never been a loser in my career and I don't want to start now. I'm not trying to be selfish or anything like that, I just want to win."

Iverson, who signed a one-year contract with Memphis in September after a tumultuous stint last season in Detroit, has been open about his displeasure with his reserve role. On Friday, he also told reporters he also wasn't communicating with Hollins, who was hired last January to replace Marc Iavaroni.

"I think that's probably the worst part of all this," Iverson said after the loss to the Lakers. "That while all this is going on, we have never talked to each other. That's probably why it's at this point right now. We've just never had a conversation, so it's probably going to always be hard for me and him to see eye-to-eye, because we've never even talked to each other. Obviously that's what you do if you're trying to accomplish the same goal."

When asked before Saturday's game to respong, Hollins bluntly: "If Allen wants to talk to me, my door is open. I talk to him during the game, before the game and after the game.

"I understand star power, and that's to be expected," Hollins added. "I wouldn't mind even talking about Allen's star power if it was about the game and his performance during the game, versus what Allen has said and what he will or won't do."

Hollins said third-year player Marcus Williams would likely assume Iverson's minutes during his absence.

NBA.com contributor Bryan Chu and The Associated Press added information to this report.

So there you have it! You guys have just been fed!

God bless you guys! Stay safe! Peace out! The Wizard was here...:)

November 6, 2009 (Part 3); Alaska's train-wrecking, goes 6-0

The first game featured the Smart Gilas National Team and the Coca-Cola Tigers, wherein we saw the first win of Gilas, 98-93. Chris Tiu led the Nationals with 18 points, 9 rebs, and 9 assists.

The second game showed the Alaska Aces continue their winning ways, working like a well-oiled machine as they marched on to their sixth straight win, defeating the Burger King Whoppers, 87-73. Willie Miller was the high point man with 19 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The main game showcased the Brgy. Ginebra Kings go up against the Barako Bull Energy Boosters. The Kings were without the services of two of their main guys, Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa. The good news is because of that, veteran playmaker Johnny "The Flying A" Abarrientos was reinstated in the roster.

He wowed us with his brilliant playmaking, finishing the game with 6 assists and 1 steal, making it a total of 1,431 career steals for him, who holds the PBA record for most steals in history.

Cyrus Baguio was the best player, scoring 22 points, along with a rebound and 2 block shots.

November 6, 2009 (Part 2); LeBron denied at home!

Yes guys, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were defeated at home by the Chicago Bulls, 86-85.

And it is all because of LeBron's final drive to the basket.

He forced up a layup which was cleanly defended by Luol Deng and Joakim Noah.

Not Deng, nor Noah, did touch the ball before going out of bounds. It was James. He tried to sell a foul, but neither referees Ron Garrettson, Michael Smith nor Eli Roe called for any, which was the right decision, even after consulting the instant replay slomo.

The Cavs go down to 3-3, while the Bulls move up to 3-2.

In the other game today, the Utah Jazz proved too much for the San Antonio Spurs, beating them at home via 113-99 outburst led by the dynamic duo of Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer.

Now, here are the scores from today's games!

Chicago 86 (3-2)
Cleveland 85 (3-3)
Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, Ohio
