August 9, 2009 (Part 1); Team Pilipinas succumbs to Korea

The South Korean national team got our number as they defeated our Powerade-Team Pilipinas last night, 69-56, as they stay undefeated at the FIBA-Asia Championships in Tianjin, China.

Our team tried to stay close up until the midpoint of the 4th period, but the outside shooting of the Koreans were the difference, as they stroked it from rainbow country several times, preventing any Philippine run to happen.

Cyrus Baguio had a game-high 16 points despite the loss, along with 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Mick Pennisi finished the game with 9 points, while team captain Asi Taulava made 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Yang Hee-Jong led the Koreans with 14 points, while Kim Min-soo and Oh Sekeun both had 11 points.

In the process, the Koreans are still undefeated after 3 games, while the Philippines finished with a 2-1 record in the group classification.

The top 3 teams from the 4 groups will move on to the crossover classification round, wherein the top 3 teams of Group A (Korea, Philippines and Japan) will face the top 3 team from Group B (Iran, Chinese Taipei and Kuwait). They will all be forming Group E.

On the other hand, the top 3 teams from Group C (China, Qatar and Kazakhstan) will face the top 3 teams from Group D (Jordan, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates). They will all be forming Group F.

Our next opponent will be Chinese Taipei tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM. It will be shown LIVE on C/S9 and BTV. Let's pray and support our team, the Powerade-Team Pilipinas towards our goal to reach the FIBA World Championships next year in Istanbul, Turkey. And of course, the ultimate goal, to be part of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

Powerade-Team Pilipinas 56 (2-1)

August 1, 2009 (Part 1); R.I.P. Former President Cory Aquino

At exactly 3:18 this morning, our country and probably the whole world learned the shocking news that our country's first female president Corazon Cojuangco Aquino succumbed to cardio-pulmonary arrest due to her fight against colon cancer. She was 76 years old (1933-2009).

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had already shown her sympathy for the fallen former president, as well as our present president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who's in the United States as this very moment due to her state visit to the White House as per the invitation of US Pres. Barack Obama.

She said in her statement earlier that starting today, the entire nation will observed a 10-day period of mourning for the democracy icon.

Thanks for everything President Cory, you'll always be remembered. You are a hero. And now, may you rest in peace as you join our Creator :)

The Wizard sympathizes with the entire nation...
