May 7, 2009 (Part 4); Lakers defend home court, defeats Rockets
This is good news for all Los Angeles Lakers' fans. Your team is still at it.
After what is the most physical game in the playoffs so far, the Lakers prevented a meltdown and salvaged a split at home, beating the Houston Rockets, 111-98.
Two players got thrown out of the game due to its physical nature. Ron Artest and Derek Fisher got the call from the referees. Artest was thrown out by referee Joe Crawford with 6:57 left in the game, when he pointed at Kobe Bryant across the court and made a gesture near his throat.
Meanwhile, Fisher was called for a flagrant foul after colliding with Luis Scola, who was setting a pick at that time. Scola fell to the floor while Fisher received a bloody cut right on his head near his right ear.
Technical fouls were assessed to Bryant, Scola, Luke Walton and Lamar Odom.
The theme for this series is unstoppable offense vs. impenetrable defense, and that is putting into play this early in the series.
Kobe Bryant made his presence felt this time as he led the Lakers in scoring with 40 points on 16 out of 27 from the field, with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Pau Gasol finished with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while the ejected Fisher had 12 points and 2 assists.
The Rockets on the other hand were led by Ron Artest with 25 points and 5 assists. Carl Landry provided 21 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Little man Aaron Brooks finished with 13 points and 2 rebounds, while Luis Scola and Yao Ming both capped off the night with 12 points, with Scola having 4 rebounds and Yao with 10 boards.
There are no confirmations or news yet whether suspensions will be attested to some players involved in those incidents mentioned.
