May 6, 2009 (Part 2); Nuggets go 2-0 against Mavs
After moving on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 15 years, the Denver Nuggets made another statement to the entire league.
They defeated the Dallas Mavericks this morning, 117-105, to have the commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series.
A critical mistake made the Mavs late in the third quarter proved to be the turning point of the game, as the Denver Nuggets capitalized after a bad pass from Jason Kidd intended for Jason Terry, who was outhussled by Chauncey Billups, who afterwards saw the streaking J.R. Smith who made the easy two-pointer inside the paint.
That was game over as far as the Nuggets are concerned.
Carmelo Anthony and Nene Hilario led the Nuggets, pouring in 25 points each, with Anthony adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and Nene added 8 rebounds. J.R. Smith had 21 points and 3 assists off the bench, while key acquisition Chauncey Billups had 18 points and 8 assists.
The Mavs were steamheaded by Dirk Nowitzki with the game-high 35 points, adding 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Sixth Man of the year Jason Terry had 21 points and 6 assists off the bench.
Game 3 of the series will be on Sunday, May 10 at 5:00 AM, with the series shifting to Dallas.

In other news, the Chicago-Boston series, which is regarded as the best first round series in playoff series, set another record in viewership.
Game 6, which went into triple-overtime, was seen by 5.35 million people, first set the record. But Game 7 went beyond that, having seen by 6.99 million people. This figure is surprising since it coincided with the Pacquiao-Hatton fight. It only proves that basketball is still more important than boxing in the United States.
There you go! PBA news a little later on!
The Wizard was here... :)
