May 6, 2009 (Part 1); Man Utd back in Champions League Final; Cavs take Game 1
For the second consecutive year, Manchester United will be competing in the UEFA Champions League final.
Just this morning at the Emirates Stadium in London, United ended Arsenal's dream of going to the final in Rome as they put on a good first-half en route to a 3-1 victory. United wins via a 4-1 aggregate.
Ji-Sung Park provided the first goal for United at the 7th minute, when teenage fall-back Kieran Gibbs slipped at a very crucial moment, allowing Park to slip a shot pass goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.
The second goal for United was from a free-kick 40 yards away from goal. And who else to take it but the greatest player today, Cristiano Ronaldo. He calmly stepped into the field, took a deep breath and stroke it. It went to the top corner, thus producing another goal in the 10th minute.
The third goal again came from Ronaldo when he slipped past Almunia at the 60th minute.
Arsenal got their only goal due to the red card given to United's Darren Fletcher after bringing down Cesc Fabregas in United area, allowing Robin van Persie to convert via a penalty kick in the 75th minute.
With that red card, Darren Fletcher will be suspended in the final on May 27th, joining Roy Keane and Paul Scholes as the only United players to have been suspended on the grandest stage in European football.
They will face the winner of the Chelsea-Barcelona semi-final, which will be shown tomorrow morning at 2:30 AM LIVE on ESPN.
