May 18, 2009 (Part 1); Happily ever after in LA-LA land
Every fairy tale has a happy ending.
And so does for the Los Angeles Lakers.
With Paul Gasol dominating on both ends of the floor, the Lakers finally finished off a long and grueling series against the underdogs and the undermanned Houston Rockets team in Game 7 this morning, 89-70, to win the series and moving on to the Western Conference Finals to face the challenge of the 2nd seeded Denver Nuggets.
The real Laker team showed up for this game as they dominated the Rockets in practically every aspect of the game. They prevented the penetrations, the breakaways and the fastbreaks. And finally, they showed that they are the conference's top dogs, and not the inconsistent one that was pushed to the limit by an undermanned team like the Rockets.
Pau Gasol finished the game with 21 points and 18 rebounds on 10 out of 19 from the field. He kept Rockets guard Aaron Brooks from penetrating, as he did often in the series. The Spaniard had 12 offensive rebounds and swatted away three shots.
Trevor Ariza finished the game with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum both had 14 points, with Bryant adding 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Bynum added 6 boards to his credit.
Aaron Brooks only had 13 points to lead the Rockets, along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Luis Scola finished with 11 points. Von Wafer just had 10. Ron Artest (seven points) and Shane Battier (three points) are non-factors.
The Rockets are now headed tp the off-season, having high spirits even though they lost, due to the fact that they did an excellent job against the Lakers. They went on to show everybody that they are not just your ordinary team. Even though their star players are out, they are still a dangerous team.
The Lakers-Nuggets showdown will start on Wednesday, May 20th at 9:00 AM.
