May 14, 2009 (Part 4); The Nuggets are in the West Finals

Yes, after 24 long years of waiting, the Denver Nuggets have finally made it through to the Western Conference Finals.

They defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 124-110, to win their best-of-seven series at 4 games to 1.

They will now await the winner of the LA Lakers-Houston Rockets series, with the Lakers leading that series at 3 games to 2.

It is indeed a triumphant homecoming for Chauncey Billups, as he led the team to victory.

The energy provided by the fans inside the Pepsi Center fed the Nuggets to run away from the Mavs. The Nuggets led for most of the game, and they never looked back from the big deficit they made.

Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Hometown boy Chauncey Billups was not far behind, notching a double-double, with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists. J.R. Smith came off the bench to add 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Nene Hilario provided 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Kenyon Martin pinched in 15 points and 4 assists.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with a double-double of his own, scoring 32 points and adding 10 rebounds. Jason Kidd provided 19 points and 9 assists. Brandon Bass added the spark off the bench with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Josh Howard had 14 points and 3 rebounds, while Jason Terry had an off night, with just 11 points on 4 out of 13 from the field, along with 2 steals, on their final game of the season, as they are now headed to a long summer.

The Nuggets meanwhile, will have enough time to rest and study their gameplan against their opponents for the next round, whether its the Lakers or the Rockets.
