May 12, 2009 (Part 2); Mavs avoid sweep against Nuggets

The Mavs loss to the Nuggets last Sunday was so devastating that everyone thought they can't come back from that.

Sorry folks, the Mavs just did it.

With some encouraging harsh words from owner Mark Cuban, and a jab from Carmelo Anthony, which change the ballgame, the Mavs came back with a vengeance from that controversial loss by defeating the Denver Nuggets, 119-117, avoiding a series sweep. They have never been swept in a best-of-seven series in their franchise's history.

The Nuggets led by 14 points in the fourth period, but the Mavs made a late run which made the game closer. Anthony even hit a three-pointer with 3.1 seconds left in the game. But when Jason Terry intentional missed his free-throw, there was nothing that Anthony can do, not even heaving it from 90 feet away.

The game was pretty more like a Game 7. A total of seven technical fouls were called plus two flagrant fouls. Even Carmelo Anthony's girlfriend, LaLa Vazquez, was removed from the sidelines by security for added protection, and for Kenyon Martin's mom, who had a brief exchange with the Mavs owner.

Cuban won't attend Game 5 on Thursday because he will attend an awards night in Vegas in which he promised his wife to attend.

The game on Thursday will be at 9:00 AM.

The Mavs were led by the Dunking Dutchman, Dirk Nowitzki with the game-high 44 points on 14 out of 25 from the field, with 13 rebounds and 3 assists. Josh Howard added 21 points and 11 boards. Jason Kidd finished with 13 points and 10 boards. Jason Terry had 12 points, Brandon Bass got 11, while J.J. Barea pulled off with 10 points.

Meanwhile for the Nuggets, it was Carmelo Anthony who did most of the scoring, finishing with his new playoff-high 41 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 assists. Chauncey Billups chipped in with 24 markers and 7 dishes. J.R. Smith finished with 19 points off the bench, while Dahntay Jones had 10 points and 5 boards.

Only 8 players played for the Nuggets, while only 9 were suited for the Mavs.
