May 1, 2009 (Part 3); Bulls force clicher on 3 OT's!

Just when you thought the game is over, someone, in any way, will make it more exciting.

It was the case today between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics.

This marks the 4th time in six game where the game has went into extra periods. But this one is pretty special, it went into not one, not even two, but three overtimes, making this the first triple overtime game since May 8, 2004, when the New Jersey Nets faced the Detroit Pistons.

The game spanned on more than 4 hours. It started at 7:00 AM here in Manila, and ended at around 11:10 AM.

The Bulls were led by John Salmons, who scored 35 points on 13 of 22 from the field, along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Rookie of the Year awardee and All-Rookie First Team member Derrick Rose finished the game with almost a triple-double performance, having 28 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Brad Miller had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and also scoring 4 of his points on crucial free throws which probably won them the game.

Joakim Noah scored the most important 2 points for the Bulls this game. He drove to the basket for the dunk, causing the 6th foul of Paul Pierce. He had 9 points and 15 rebounds.

Ben Gordon, who fouled out on this game, finished with 12 points and 4 assists.

On the other side of things for the Celtics, it was a bittersweet moment for Ray Allen, who finished with his career playoff-high, 51 points on 58 minutes of play. He was 9 out of 18 (50%) from the 3-point area, 6 out of 7 (86%) from the free-throw line, and 18 out of 32 (56%) from the field. He tied the NBA playoff record with those 9 made three-point basket, and was just three points shy of the club playoff record set by John Havlicek in 1973.

Three of the starters for the Celtics fouled out this game, namely, Pierce, Glen Davis and Kendrick Perkins. Davis finished the game with 23 points and 7 rebounds, while Perkins had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Rajon Rondo was the missing link for the Celtics in this game. Although he finished with 19 assists and 9 rebounds, he only put up 8 points, which really made the difference for them.

Now, my theory has really been proven, that if Derrick Rose scores 20 or more points, the Bulls will win the game. Nevermind the Gordons and the Hinrichs, but I still credit them for their performance. But this is all about the Rookie of the Year. Rose poured in 28, and boom, the Bulls won.

Game 7 will be held in Boston on Sunday, May 3, coinciding with the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight.
