April 24, 2009; Without KG & Powe, Celtics still pound Bulls
The Celtics showed that even without big men Kevin Garnett and Leon Powe in the lineup, they are still the team to beat.
And that they are the defending champions.
The Celtics performed like a well-oiled machine as they blew out the Chicago Bulls, 107-86, to lead their series, 2 games to 1. The Celtics led from the the first whistle, with the lineup from Paul Pierce, and from that point on, they never looked back.
They ended the 1st quarter with an 11-point lead, and they managed to double that lead after the first half, leading 59-37.
The Celtics were led by the 24 points of Paul Pierce. Rajon Rondo also had a good game with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Streak shooter Ray Allen scored 18 points on 3/4 from beyond the arc. "Big Baby" Glen Davis finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Stephon Marbury added 13 points off the bench.
The Bulls that played a while ago was not the usual Bull team that we are seeing. They were led by Ben Gordon tonight with 15 points and 2 rebounds, while Kirk Hinrich and John Salmons had 14 points each on a losing effort.
Game 4 of the series will be played on Monday, April 27 at 1:00 AM, still from the United Center in Chicago.
