April 24, 2009 (part 4); RP Team beats South All-Stars in a close battle
The Powerade Team Pilipinas escaped tonight with a victory against the import-laden South All-Stars, 103-99, from the Panabo City Sports Complex in Davao del Norte.
Jared Dillinger was named as the player of the game, leading the RP Team to victory, earning himself P20,000 cash prize for his effort. Another P75,000 was given to the team for their victory.
The culmination of the All-Star week will be on Sunday, where the Skills competition will be on hand, featuring the Obstacle Challenge, the 3-Point Shootout and the exciting Slam Dunk Contest. The festivities will start at 4:00 PM from the capital of Philippine basketball, the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
In other news, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will parade 10 teams on the upcoming Season 85 starting June 27.
Arellano University, Angeles University Foundation and the Emilio Aguinaldo College are the new teams for the next season, after they have all accepted the conditions set by the Association.
They are the replacements for Philippine Christian University (PCU) who filed an indefinite leave of absence from the league this year. They may reapply for this season for inclusion in NCAA's Season 86 next year.
In boxing, IBF/IBO Flyweight Champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire confirmed that he is moving up to the superflyweight division this year.
He said that he is tired of fighting in the flyweight division. He also told the media that although he wanted to fight the Junior Bantamweight Champion Jose "Carlita" Lopez from Puerto Rico, and if that fight doesn't materialize, he will go up to face WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Fernando Montiel.

Manchester United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson announced this morning that right-backs John O'Shea and team captain Gary Neville won't be available for the next couple of weeks due to ankle injuries. This means that the two won't be available for Sunday morning's fixture against Tottenham Hotspur and the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Arsenal next Thursday.
Arsenal F.C. on the other hand suffered a big blow as striker Robin van Persie suffered a groin injury that ruled him out of the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester United. Left-back Gael Clichy is also likely to miss then United game due to a back injury.
