April 23, 2009; Heat pounces Hawks
The Miami Heat taught the Atlanta Hawks to never underestimate the heart of a former champion.
The Heat clobbered the Hawks, 108-93, to even up their series at 1-1. Game 3 will be on Sunday at 6:30 AM from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.
The Hawks made a late run in the final quarter, reducing the Heat lead to just 7 with 6:00 left, but the foul committed by Josh Smith maybe cost them the game, as Jermaine O'Neal made 2 for 2 from the line. Dwyane Wade made sure that the Hawks won't be able to stay close when he shot a 3-point basket on the last 2 minutes of the game, increasing their lead to 10.
Unlike Game 1, when Dwyane Wade was held to just 19 points, Wade exploded for this game, scoring a game-high 33 points on 11/20 shooting, with 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Three-point shootout Daequan Cook caught fire as well, adding 20 points off the bench, on 6/9 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Hawks featured a balanced scoring team, led by 19 points from Mike Bibby. Josh Smith added 17, Joe Johnson had 16, Flip Murray contributed 15, while Al Horford and Marvin Williams each poured in 11 points on a losing effort.
