February 28, 2009; Wizards defeated the Bulls, with Pres. Obama along the sidelines!

US Pres. Barack Obama is from Illinois and is a known Chicago Bull fan, but today, he is torn between the two teams that he favors the most.

And as we all know, the White House is located right in the heart of Washington, D.C., so that makes the Washington Wizards his second favorite team.

The Wizards and the Bulls faced off at the Verizon Center in Washington, where Pres. Obama sat at courtside to watch the action up close. The Wizards brought the worst record in the East into the game at 13-44, while the Bulls had a 26-32 win-loss slate, which is 10th in the East.

The Wizards had a strong start, leading 27-18 by the end of the first quarter, and they never looked back. Much to the shiggrin of the President, the Wizards secured a 113-90 win as they improve their record to 14-44, still the worst in the East. The Bulls dropped to 26-33, still 10th in the East.

The Wizards were led by team co-captain Antawn Jamison with a double-double performance, scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 boards. And more amazingly, seven another Wizard scored in double digits. Caron Butler and Mike James both scored 14. Darius Songaila, Andray Blatche and Nick Young scored 12 each, while Dominic McGuire and JaVale McGee scored 10 each. The Wizards are still without the services of big men Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood and their All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas, who is now, according to reports, practicing with the team.

February 27, 2009; No Class/Rest Day! :)

Finally, a day wherein I had the time to rest, a thing which was not that much granted to be these past couple of weeks, due to a very tight schedule. School is off the charts these past few days because it's the final stretch! It's the Finals! So, more things are needed to be accomplished before the semester ends.

Believe me guys when I say this, hard work will pay off! It's better to work your ass off today rather than to suffer the consequences tomorrow :) Let's us go full throttle guys! Trust me, the rewards will be a handful! :)

And now, without further ado, here are the latest from the world of sports!

First up, from the NBA!

LeBron James was held to just 21 points and the entire Cavalier team shot a dismal 33 percent shooting from the field as they go on to lose against the Houston Rockets, 93-74. It's the Rockets' ninth consecutive win at home and its sixth straight overall. Even with the loss, the Cavs still leads the East with its 44-12 record, just sixth thousandths percentage points above the 46-13 record of the 2nd place Boston Celtics. Yao Ming led the way for the Rockets with 28 points and 8 rebounds.

Cleveland 74 (44-12)
Houston 93 (37-21)
CLE: Maurice Williams- 21 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assts, 2 stls.
HOU: Yao Ming- 28 pts, 8 rebs.

And on the second game of a doubleheader, the Los Angeles Lakers made easy pickings against the short-handed Phoenix Suns at the STAPLES Center, 132-106. Steve Nash and Amar`e Stoudemire are not suited for the Suns due to injuries (Nash with a sprained right ankle and Stoudemire had an eye surgery to fix his retina). Its the Lakers' sixth straight win. The Lakers were led by Lamar Odom with 23 markers and 9 boards, while reigning MVP Kobe Bryant pitched in 22 points and 8 dishes. Leandro Barbosa, who started as the point guard, led the Suns with 18 points and 7 assists. Five other Sun players scored in double figures.

Phoenix 106 (32-25)
LA Lakers 132 (47-10)
PHX: Leandro Barbosa- 18 pts, 6 rebs, 7 assts, 1 stl.
LAL: Lamar Odom- 23 pts, 9 rebs, 4 assts.

And now, let's move to the local scene as we focus on the PBA!

Tomorrow afternoon will be the start of the second conference of the 34th season of the PBA, named the 2009 Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference, wherein teams are backed up once again with imports, but now, with the height limit policy. An import should just stand at a maximum of 6'6". Last year's Fiesta Conference saw a no-height limit poilicy, so teams had imports even as high as 7'1", as in the case of Chris Alexander from the Brgy. Ginebra, who won the Best Import honors.

The Sta. Lucia Realtors, with import Anthony Johnson, will face the Burger King Titans, formerly known as the Air21 Express, with Shawn Daniels to back them up at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex at Dumaguete City. It will be shown LIVE on C/S 9 nationwide.

So there you have it! You guys have just been fed!

It's a Friday night, so for all you fellas and ladies who are going out, buckle up and be safe ayt? :) Have fun you guys!

God bless you guys! Stay safe! Peace out! Have a happy weekend! The Wizard was here... :)

Comments, questions and suggestions are highly appreciated! :)

Tomorrow, I won't have class because of "Dangal ng UST". Classes will resume at 1 pm! Haha! Good thing we have 7am-12nn classes every Friday! :) Ergo, me and my block won't have class :)

Had class today from 7 am to 4 pm. Also had a quiz in Biochem, a test where I think I did good. And had a pretty long discussion in Histo Lab. Next week we are going to have another set of practical exam and quiz about the topic a while ago (Nervous and Muscular Tissue). Another busy week next week. Oral defense in English, quizzes here and there and the practical exam.

February 22, 2009; The Nightmare is back!

The day started early for me. My dad and I went to the court and played basketball at around 6 am. Good thing we won, in comeback fashion. The game was up to 48 points. After trailing 36-24, we stormed back to win the game, 48-42. Our run started with the steal I made when we were down 36-24. It's was an overall performance by our team. So all's well that ends well. Haha! :)

Congratulations by the way to the FIlipino boxers headed by WBO Bantamweight Champion Gerry Penalosa by winning last night at the "Battle of the Bantamweights" from the Cebu Coliseum. Job well done!

February 21, 2009; Overtime Thriller @ the STAPLES!

After another busy week of school, I'm back to bring you guys the latest from the world of sports!

Today was a rest day for me. Just stayed home. Watched TV, played PSP, ate lots (and I mean a LOT) of food and just sat down like a couch potato. It was one of those days where I can do this without any hindrances whatsoever!

I gotta have many more of these kind of days to come! Haha! Even though it's just 1 month away until the most-awaited part which is the summer vacation! :))

And now, back to business, here are the news!

First up, from the recently concluded NBA All-Star Weekend from Phoenix, Arizona!

First on a Friday night, the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge, wherein the Sophomores once again dominated the Rookies, 122-116. Sophomore Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder, was the game's MVP with 46 points and 7 rebounds. Michael Beasley of the Miami Heat lead the Rookies with 29 points. The Rookies were coached by Heat guard Dwyane Wade, while the Sophomores were coached by Magic center Dwight Howard.

Now, the All-Star Saturday Night, which started with the GEICO HORSE Challenge. And once again, Thunder guard/forward Kevin Durant won against Hawks guard Joe Johnson and Grizzlies rookie guard O.J. Mayo.

Next up was the Haier Shooting Stars, which featured a trio of stars from the NBA, WNBA and a legend of the team, from 4 different teams, namely, the San Antonio team (Tim Duncan, Becky Hammon and David Robinson), the Los Angeles team (Derek Fisher, Lisa Leslie and Michael Cooper), the Detroit team (Aaron Afflalo, Katie Smith and Bill Laimbeer), and the home team from Phoenix (Leandro Barbosa, Tangela Smith and Dan Majerle). At the end of the night, it was the Detroit team which bagged the 1st place trophy, winning against the Phoenix team in the final round of competition.

Up comes the PlayStation Skills Challenge, which features point guards from 4 different teams, namely Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets, Mo Williams of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Tony Parker from the San Antonio Spurs. But at the end, Bulls' Derrick Rose proved to be too fast for the competition as he won the contest fair and square against Devin Harris in the finals.

Next was the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout, wherein another underdog made a name for himself as the new three-point king in the NBA. Miami Heat guard Daequan Cook bested 7 other players in the contest, beating Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis in the final round, 19-7. Other contestants were Mike Bibby of the Atlanta Hawks, Danny Granger of the Indiana Pacers, Roger Mason, Jr. of the San Antonio Spurs, and the defending 2-time champion Jason Kapono from the Toronto Raptors.

And to end the night with a bang, it's the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, wherein Krypto-Nate proved that he's better than Superman. As 5'9" guard Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks defeated Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard via 4 percentage points, 52-48, to win the trophy, his second after his victory in Houston back in 2006. Other participants were J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets and Rudy Fernandez of the Portland Trail Blazers.

And now, to cap off the weekend, it's the 58th annual NBA All-Star Game featuring the Eastern and the Western All-Stars. It was a close game up until the 4th quarter wherein the West simply outclassed the East as they rolled on to victory, 146-119 behind Kobe Bryant's 27-point performance and Shaquille O'Neal's 17-point performance in just 11 minutes of action. Due to that, they were named co-MVP's of the game.

February 7, 2009; Sorry, LeBron!

Maybe you guys are wondering why this is the title of my post for today. Well, it is because the NBA ruled earlier today that during the Cavs-Knicks game earlier this week in Madison Square Garden, LeBron James' 10th rebound is NOT credited to him, but rather to his teammate, center Ben Wallace. So, that means James' historic night was not that historic after all. He finishes with 52 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds, one rebound shy of a triple-double. And if that triple-double would have stood, it should have been the first 50 point triple-double game by a player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975. Tough luck, King James. And, as the old adage goes, "Better luck next time"...haha! You're still a MVP candidate, don't worry.

And that was a good attempt to outplay Kobe's 61-point performance, also inside "The World's Most Famous Arena".

Also, yesterday, for the second time this season, the rematch from last year's NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics was another classic as expected. The game finished with the Lakers edging the Celtics in overtime, 110-109. The Lakers are now 2-0 this season against their bitter rivals.

Finally, Prelims week is over! Time to unwind once again! And look forward for the Finals! This is the final stretch! Better go for it! Bring home to hotdog, oh...I mean, bacon! :) The moment of truth! 2nd year is almost over...in comes the junior year, where the hard gets harder and the tough gets tougher... One way to compensate that? Just do it and everything will follow!

And now, here are the news from the world of sports!

First up, from the NBA!
